What does this jewelry represent?
The Vikings dominated Europe for more than three centuries.
They spread out from their Scandinavian homes not only to Iceland, Britain, and France, but also settled in the east, in Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, and Poland.
In the east, it was very common for Vikings to wear axe pendants as symbols of protection.
Their version of the god Thor, called Perun, evolved to wield an axe instead of a hammer. So for them, the axe Mjolnir made a better protective symbol than the hammer Mjolnir.
