This genuine Turquoise heishi bead necklace is handmade by a Santo Domingo artist. The Santo Domingo Pueblo is located near Santa Fe, New Mexico. Santo Domingo artisans have been creating heishi (hee-shee) beads for over 1,000 years. Heishi beads are discs of shell or turquoise that have been ground into smooth barrel shapes. Then they're drilled and strung to create beautiful, smooth flexible tubes of stones.  Santo Domingo heishi is world renowned for its fineness in materials and workmanship. This necklace is great worn alone or would be the perfect accent to a large turquoise pendant.
